What are the responsibilities and job description for the District Fire Chief position at City of San Antonio?
Eligibility:
Fire Captain’s wishing to take this examination must meet the eligibility criteria as described in the current collective bargaining agreement and/or in accordance with Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code as applicable.
Purpose and Vacancies:
The purpose of this examination is to establish an eligibility list, from which candidates will be selected to continue to the Assessment Center portion of the promotional process as outlined in the current collective bargaining agreement. All test participants that receive a passing grade on the written examination, up to a maximum of the top twenty (20), shall be allowed to continue to the next phase of the examination process, the Assessment Center.
Registration:
Registration for this examination will take place online beginning on March 20, 2025, at 7:45 AM and concluding on April 5, 2025, at 4:30 PM. The registration link will be emailed to all eligible candidates at their city email address from HRPOLICYTEAM@sanantonio.gov.
Time and Place of Written Examination:
A two (2) hour written examination will be given at 9:00 AM on May 8, 2025, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, 900 East Market, in Room 212.

- No cell phones, electronic devices, backpacks, books, food or drinks will be permitted inside the exam room
Review of Examination:
The five (5) day review period (excluding weekends/holidays) will begin May 9, 2025, at 7:45 AM and conclude May 15, 2025, at 4:30 PM. Information regarding the location of the review will be emailed to all candidates who sit for the exam.
