Work Hours
6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.; Monday - Friday
- Serves quality food according to meal schedules, departmental policies, and procedures.
- Assists with opening food receiving area and sets up equipment, ensuring serving line is set and ready for service at designated meal times.
- Assists with the inspection of food items and/or supplies from approved food service vendors.
- Prepares carts by loading trays for distribution.
- Ensures proper storage of food in designated areas using date/time labels.
- Maintains work areas, equipment, and utensils in a clean and orderly condition.
- Sanitizes utensils, equipment, storage and serving areas.
- Maintains daily food preparation records.
- Maintains standards of sanitation and safety, services, and food quality.
- Ensures delivery of special diets to designated students.
- Communicates inventory needs, equipment deficiencies and serving concerns to the supervisor.
- Exercises care to avoid injury by operating tools and equipment according to prescribed safety standards.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying/pushing of 10-50 pounds; visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate kitchen appliances. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, extensive walking and pushing, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are primarily inside a food preparation area and Center environment.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
- Valid Food Handler's Permit.
- Valid Serve Safe Certification, or obtain within first six (6) months of hire.
- Ability to pass DFPS (Texas Department of Family Protective Services) background check.
- Previous experience working with or around children.
- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

- Knowledgeable of Department of Family Protective Services minimum standards.
- Knowledgeable of Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) standards.
- Knowledge of kitchen equipment, food receiving, and food delivering procedures.
- Knowledge of proper disposal and/or storage of leftovers per Center policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of food handling techniques and kitchen sanitation.
- Knowledge of methods of cleaning and maintaining food service area, utensils, and equipment.
- Skill in the use of food serving equipment and cleaning equipment.
- Ability to deliver food trays efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions regarding safety procedures.
- Ability to read and follow instructions.
- Ability to maintain food service equipment and facilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor and Center staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position.
