What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Assistant (Adult /Senior Centers) - Year-round Temporary position at City of San Antonio?
Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing routine work in the recreational field with major emphasis in public contact. Assists a facilities supervisor in the operation of recreation facilities. Functions will vary dependent upon assignment. Exercises no supervision.
This position is a temporary, "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.
Work Location
One (1) of four (4) Adult/Senior Centers in various areas of San Antonio. May be assigned to work rentals and dance studio during or after regular hours of operation and/or on weekends. At the Department's discretion, the work location is subject to change.

8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. (Two (2) locations are open for additional evening hours)
Shifts will vary and are subject to change to accommodate special events, evening coverage, rotating weekends, and holiday shiftwork, as dictated by business needs.

- Performs record keeping duties such as compiling complete results attendance for programs and events.
- Prepares rooms for programs and events (i.e. set up table and chairs, put out equipment and supplies, etc.) occasionally lifting and carrying equipment weighing up to 15 pounds.
- Directs visitors to proper person, facility, or office, according to their requests.
- Performs assorted maintenance duties pertaining to spectator areas, restrooms, and scorekeeper areas.
- Organizes recreational programs for adult and senior participants.
- Leads activities such as the after school program and arts & crafts, which includes sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting and kneeling, to interact with attendees.
- Cares for and ensures equipment is in safe working condition and may check facility for safety hazards prior to start of activities each day.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
- Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
- Experience implementing programming for adults and seniors.
- Experience implementing programs in fitness, art, health, nutrition, and/or educational classes for adults and seniors.
- Experience distributing recreation equipment and tracking inventory.
- Experience using computer registration systems for participant registration.

- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
