About the Position:
The part-time Custodial Aide beautifies facilities by cleaning City buildings, offices, furniture, facilities, and preparing rooms for meetings or conferences; and performs related duties as required. The Custodial Aide is a trainee position in the Facilities Management Division supervised by a custodian or higher-level supervisor. This opportunity will fill (1) part-time vacancy and establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
What you will usually do:
Provides courteous and expeditious customer service to the general public and City department staffs.
As a trainee, cleans offices and other areas in the City buildings; cleans, sweeps, scrubs, strips, waxes, and oils floors; cleans rugs and carpets; cleans and dusts venetian blinds; cleans restrooms and replenishes toilet supplies; cleans sand urns, sinks, drinking fountains and stoves; empties and cleans wastebaskets, ash trays and trash containers; dusts, waxes, and polishes furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment; washes windows, walls, showcases, doors and desk tops; polishes metal fixtures; and reports tasks requiring journeyman support.
Assists in moving and arranging office furniture, supplies, and other heavy equipment for special events; prepares rooms for meetings or conferences; cleans parking lots and grounds around buildings; picks up litter, lawn and shrub trimmings; observes safety rules and regulations; receives training in proper methods, materials and equipment used in custodial work.
Routinely adheres to and maintains a positive attitude towards City and Department goals; and performs other related work as required.
CORE COMPETENCIES
Knowledge of:
Methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work.
Ability to:
1. Learn, operate and maintain mechanical and power custodial equipment, such as floor buffers and vacuum cleaners;
2. Learn cleaning operations required in custodial work;
3. Adhere to schedules in accomplishing assigned tasks;
4. Report malfunctions in equipment and unsafe condition of buildings;

Department Interviews - Actual hire depends on success in the departmental selection process.
Pre-Employment Process may include, but is not limited to:
- Pre-employment Medical Exam including drug test
- LiveScan Fingerprinting which reviews criminal history with the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)
Temporary, part-time and seasonal employment is restricted to 1,000 hours within a 12-month period (July 1 to June 30) and does not qualify to receive City benefits, except those required by law. Further restrictions apply to CalPERS retired annuitants. The City does not belong to the Social Security system. However, enrollment in the City's deferred compensation plan is mandatory which requires an employee contribution of 7.5% of their salary per pay period.
