About the Position:
The City of San Bernardino is seeking a Range Master who organizes, coordinates, and oversees the daily operations and activities of the City's firearms range. Ensures the proper maintenance and operation of range facilities, equipment, and systems, maintains inventories of weapons, ammunition, and range supplies, provides assistance to firearms instructors and other range users, and prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports related to range operations.

Highly organized and detail-oriented professional with extensive knowledge of firearms, ammunition, and range operations. They have a strong background in firearm safety protocols, equipment maintenance, and range security procedures. The ideal candidate excels in coordinating facility usage, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining accurate inventories of weapons and supplies. They possess excellent communication and leadership skills to effectively assist instructors, trainees, and law enforcement personnel. Additionally, they demonstrate sound judgment, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to maintain a secure and well-functioning training environment.
Qualified candidates must successfully pass a police background investigation including:
- Personal History Statement and Pre-Background Interview Questionnaire Packet
- California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background investigation
- Background Investigation with an Investigator

Education and Experience:High School diploma or G.E.D;
AND
Supplemental specialized training in firearms use and safety;
AND
At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience working with weapons; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver’s license is required.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Employees may work in outside weather conditions and may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Employees are exposed to fumes and airborne particles, caustic chemicals and the risk of electric shock, powder burns and superficial to severe gunshot wounds. The noise level is usually loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
