This is an exciting opportunity for a talented engineer to join the Public Works Department, Engineering Section as an Associate Civil Engineer or Assistant Engineer. You will be working amongst energetic, collaborative, and supportive colleagues who are solution and progress oriented.
Assistant Engineer:
This role supports Public Works engineering efforts in land development, capital improvement projects, traffic engineering, public engagement, and permitting. Responsibilities may include, but not be limited to preparing plans, specifications, and estimates for public works improvements; issuing and administering utility and street use permits; reviewing and interpreting plans and specifications for accuracy and conformance; managing projects and performing field surveys; leading or assisting in the preparation of maps and layouts; providing support during construction and preparing engineering reports; supporting the preparation of easements and right-of-way descriptions; collaborating with public groups and individuals to address infrastructure concerns; providing technical engineering information to City staff, agencies, engineers, consultants, contractors, and the public; performing site inspections and representing the City with integrity and cooperation; building positive working relationships with co-workers, City employees, and the public.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering
- One year of civil engineering experience including fieldwork
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is highly desirable
Associate Civil Engineer:
This role involves performing complex engineering work and providing both office and field support for water, sewer, street, storm drain, and other Public Works projects and programs. The successful candidate will ensure quality assurance and compliance with current codes and criteria.
As part of efforts to renew San Bruno's aging infrastructure, the chosen candidate will participate in the development and implementation of an ambitious capital improvement program. Candidates with experience and interest in traffic and transportation engineering and land development are also encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities may include, but not be limited to interpreting codes, regulations, and requirements; coordinating the development of engineering specification and plans; managing municipal public works projects; designing; administering and managing construction contracts and work; preparing applications and performing grant administration; responding to public inquiries; assisting in survey work; administering permits for utility, street use, and franchise; providing engineering support for other City departments.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in civil engineering or a closely related field
- Possession and maintenance of a valid registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California, or the ability to obtain California registration within six (6) months if registered in another state
- A minimum of three (3) years of responsible civil engineering experience comparable to an Assistant Civil Engineer
- Municipal or related consultant experience is highly desirable
