About the Role (Illustrative)
As Deputy City Clerk, you will support the City Clerk’s Office by managing records, preparing City Council meeting materials, and assisting with municipal elections. You may provide similar services to those offered by the City Clerk in their absence, ensuring smooth operations and compliance with public records laws. Your work will help keep San Bruno’s government accessible and transparent to its residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing City Council agendas, minutes, ordinances, and resolutions.
- Support the administration of municipal elections and ensure compliance with election laws.
- Manage and maintain public records and city archives.
- Oversee public records requests to ensure transparency.
- Act as a Notary Public and certify official city documents.
- Assist with budget administration and financial record keeping for the department.
- Support commissions and boards with recruitment, meeting coordination, and documentation.
- Staff the City Clerk Office Public Service Counter and provide customer service support.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. An AA/AS in Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field is highly desirable.
- Experience: At least four (4) years of office administration or records management experience, preferably in a City Clerk’s Office or government agency.
- Certifications:
- Required: Must obtain a Notary Public Commission within six months of hire.
- Preferred: Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation.
