The Field Supervisor position is crucial, overseeing maintenance and custodial staff, and managing projects such as, asset replacement, repair, and improvements. Responsibilities include:
- Planning, organizing, and directing staff for facility maintenance and cleaning.
- Establishing work priorities and inspecting progress.
- Managing projects: developing scopes, soliciting bids, organizing teams, inspecting work, identifying deficiencies, and ensuring budget compliance.
- Training personnel in work methods, tools, equipment, and safety.
- Ensuring availability of resources and maintaining inventories.
- Analyzing infrastructure and program operations for maintenance and repairs.
Additional duties involve:
- Communicating with contractors and staff.
- Providing customer service and addressing concerns.
- Conducting inspections and recommending maintenance.
- Preparing reports and records.
- Assisting with budget preparation and monitoring.
- Responding to emergencies during and after hours.
The Field Supervisor role is unique among Maintenance and Operations roles due to its emphasis on managing City-owned grounds, buildings, and property improvement activities, as well as overseeing staff. Responsibilities include directing work, training and coaching employees, administering discipline, and evaluating subordinates' performance.
Knowledge of
- Principles and practices of supervision, including selection and training, and the operation and maintenance of various motorized equipment.
- Methods, tools, and equipment used in facilities maintenance.
- Safe work methods and practices.
- Mathematical techniques for estimating material needs and their costs.
- Environmental rules, regulations, and Best Management Practices relevant to the division and type of work.
Ability to:
- Effectively supervise assigned personnel and ensure the completion of assigned programs and projects.
- Communicate clearly.
- Acquire thorough knowledge of applicable programs, policies, and regulations of the City and other government agencies.
- Prepare and maintain accurate reports and records using computer-based maintenance software.
- Operate and maintain equipment and tools.
- Maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work, including the public.
Education and Experience:
- Graduated from high school or obtain a GED
- Two years of experience as supervisor and or manager with direct reports
License Requirements:
- Class B State of California Driver’s License, if applicable.
- Depending on the assignment, a Wastewater or Water Treatment certification may be required by the City.
