LIGHT BOARD OPERATOR / PROGRAMMER
THE OPPORTUNITY
The San Gabriel Mission Playhouse has an exciting opportunity for Light Board Operator / Programmer. Light Board Operator must have journey-level knowledge and experience with the planning, coordination, set-up, use, and maintenance of theater lighting systems and equipment. Light Board Operators must also have a strong work ethic and customer service skills, communicate effectively with others, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.
This position is required to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and on short notice.
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Stage Manager and / or Production Coordinator, the Light Board Operator is responsible for the programming, set-up, use, and maintenance of the light board system for stage rehearsals and performances. The Light Board Operator works with the Production Lighting Designer and / or Master Electrician to create a desired lighting look and ensure all lighting cues are recorded accurately and that proper checks and maintenance of lighting equipment are completed. This position is also responsible for maintaining lighting equipment, coordinating staff, and other related duties.
Typical Qualifications
Professional level experience in lighting production for live theater / stage events. Typical requirements for this position include :
- Set up and operate theatrical / stage lighting equipment including lighting hang & focus, circuiting, and cabling for rehearsals and performances.
The ability to read a light plot.
The ability to work safely at heights form ladders and man lifts.
Knowledge of conventional, DMX addressing, and Power Distros is required. Additional knowledge of moving lighting fixtures, and networking, is a plus.
Knowledge and experience with light board programming including ETC Gio consoles is required.
Knowledge and experience with assembling, maintaining, using, and troubleshooting stage lighting equipment and fixtures.
Knowledge of light transmission and colors.
Knowledge of electricity, planning, implementing, and running electrical circuits and electric power distribution.

SPECIAL PROVISIONS
Bilingual Pay - Bilingual pay of $0.58 per hour may be provided to employees who pass a proficiency examination in a second language such as Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or Spanish. Bilingual pay shall be provided based on the need of the department and approval of the City. Eligibility and need will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
PARS Program - Part-Time Employees are required to participate in the Public Retirement Services (PARS) retirement savings / investment program in-lieu of Social Security. Funds are transferable upon separation or retirement.
