Position Duties

The Department of Transportation is currently seeking to fill 1 vacancy for the Maintenance Superintendent position.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking a Maintenance Superintendent for the Pavement Maintenance Division, who will supervise and manage the in-house pavement maintenance team. The in-house team is comprised of three sections which provide a wide range of services including pothole repairs, emergency stamp patch work, storm preparation, concrete construction, and aid various departments with tasks requiring heaving equipment. This Maintenance Superintendent position directly supervises three Maintenance Supervisors and approximately 40 employees.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Developing and implementing service delivery models that define the service level goals for each of the operational areas, providing a workforce deployment plan that aligns with established priorities and goals, and establishing and reporting out performance on performance measures to evaluate and report on operational service goals and accomplishments.
  • Plays a key role in strategic planning activities, including coordinating activities with different sections within DOT and other City Departments.
  • Managing multiple material purchase orders and coordinating the use of the program's fleet of equipment.
  • Department leader in field staff safety, training, and development and is a key position in the Department's Emergency Response Plan.
  • Takes the lead to identify and resolve discipline cases, as well as coordinating Union and OER-related issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Education : Completion of high school diploma, GED, or California Proficiency Certificate

Experience : Six (6) years experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sewers, parks, and public facilities including

at least three (3) years of supervisory experience at the level of Maintenance Supervisor.

Certifications / Licenses : May require State of California certification for the use of chemicals and pesticides. Possession of a valid California driver's license.
