About the Department
The City of San Jos, Office of the City Attorney is seeking :
- A senior level trial attorney with substantial civil experience in state and federal court.
Position Duties
As a litigation attorney in our Office, under supervision of a Chief Deputy, you will have primary responsibility for all aspects of assigned cases, including pleading, litigation strategy, client communication and coordination, discovery and document review, motion practice, settlement evaluation and negotiation, and trial. The City's varied and novel legal issues require excellent research, analytical, and writing skills as well as the ability to vigorously defend complex matters.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates will have a minimum of 5 years recent civil litigation experience. Jury trial experience is preferred. Hiring criteria include command of rules of evidence and civil procedure; a demonstrated ability to analyze claims and defenses to execute appropriate discovery, motion and trial strategies; proficient legal research skills supporting effective written and oral advocacy.
Admission to the California State Bar is required for this position.
Salary range DOE :
Deputy City Attorney - $116,511 - $195,946
Senior Deputy City Attorney - $148,698 - $262,689
