Public Works Technician Job Description
The City of San Luis, AZ is seeking a skilled Public Works Technician to join our team. As a key member of our public works department, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing the city's streets, grounds, and facilities using hand and power tools, equipment, machinery, and vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintains and repairs streets, grounds, and facilities using hand and power tools, equipment, machinery, and vehicles;
• Cleans, repairs, and maintains City streets, storm drains, and catch basins;
• Fabricates, installs, maintains, and replaces directional and traffic signs, sidewalks, curbs, and gutters using heavy equipment and materials;
• Performs general concrete work including footings, finishing, forming, etc.;
• Establishes traffic control safety procedures at work sites as per MUTCD standards;
• Installs traffic controls and signage and/or stripping;
• Operates backhoes, small dump trucks, bob cats, and other equipment as required;
• Pumps flood water after major storms;
• Performs basic building construction, maintenance, and repair tasks (remodeling, framing, sheetrock installation, roofing, stucco, painting, basic plumbing/electrical work, etc.);
• Performs operator-level inspection, servicing, fueling, and maintenance (including washing) of assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles;
• Responds to requests from City departments for assistance as needed;
• May oversee community service workers and coordinate activities;
• Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
• High school diploma or GED equivalent;
• One (1) year experience in construction, road repair/maintenance work and equipment operation;
• Must have concrete construction experience;
• Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English;
• A valid Arizona driver's license at the time of appointment;
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team;
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills;
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in varying weather conditions.
