THIS IS A VOLUNTEER POSITION, WITH A MONTHLY STIPEND, ON A CITY ADVISORY BODY
Annual recruitment is open through Sunday, January 26, 2025. Interviews will be scheduled following close of recruitment. On April 1, 2025, City Council will make final appointments during their Regular Meeting and terms will begin immediately. Applicants that meet minimum qualifications will remain on file for one year and will be considered if unscheduled vacancies occur.

Two positions are available for appointment to 4-year terms. Both positions are currently held by members that are eligible for re-appointment, should they choose to apply.
The Planning Commission's (PC) scope of work, or purview is to make recommendations to the City Council for the City's development, as set forth in San Luis Obispo Municipal Code §2.12.040. To carry out this responsibility the commission will:

- Review and approve applications for commercial, residential, industrial and other development projects, based on Council approved policies, and State law;
- Review and recommend a general plan and appropriate attachments;
- Review and recommend appropriate specific plans;
- Review the City's capital improvement program annually;
- Perform authorized duties related to development review;
- Perform such other duties required by the Council or by State or City laws.

The Planning Commission (PC) has seven members who are not necessarily planning professionals. Members must be residents and registered voters of the City. No special training is required for appointment. Members occasionally may be requested to attend seminars and workshops to enhance skills in planning.
Members must file a public Statement of Economic Interests as required by the Fair Political Practices Commission.
Additionally, two hours of AB 1234 Ethics Training must be completed within the first year of assuming office and every two years thereafter.

The City Council has approved a stipend of $86 per meeting (not to exceed $347 monthly) for each member of the Planning Commission.
