Summary Description
The City of San Marcos is currently hiring for a Part Time Maintenance Worker position to support the Facilities Divisions.
Under general supervision, performs a variety of manual, skilled, or semi-skilled duties related to public works construction, maintenance and repair of city buildings and facilities, maintenance and repair of city streets and sidewalks, municipal parks, rights-of-way, drainage systems, traffic signing and striping, and other public improvements; operates power driven equipment.
Part time employment with the City of San Marcos is limited to no more than 999 hour per fiscal year and an average of 20 hours per week, based on the approved budget for this position.

One year of experience in public works construction and maintenance, including at least six months manual labor experience involving the use of hand tools and portable power tools.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

- Performs a wide variety of manual, skilled, and semi-skilled construction and maintenance work, including digging trenches, placing and finishing concrete, loading and unloading vehicles, moving materials and equipment, litter abatement, and painting.
- Operates motor-driven equipment and trucks on streets, highways, and over terrain; operates hand and portable power tools.
- Cleans, maintains, and properly stores tools and equipment; performs minor repairs and adjustments to assigned equipment; cleans, maintains, and stores equipment.
- Cleans and maintains restrooms and park structures.
- Repair or replace restroom fixtures, lighting, etc.
- Uses chemicals and/or other supplies.
- Maintains simple records; reads and interprets directions and sketches.
- Provides and participates in emergency responses, which, while not all-inclusive, may include traffic control for extended periods, continual and strenuous sandbagging, emergency repairs to public facilities, assisting with evacuations, etc.
- Routinely operates the following light and medium power-driven equipment: aerial lift, air compressor and other miscellaneous tools. Performs other related work as required.
