SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The City of San Marcos is in the midst of several exciting initiatives, and the Public Works Department is playing a key role in making these projects a reality. We are looking for a dynamic Deputy Director to help lead our department through this impactful time:
- Public Infrastructure & Asset Management: The City is focused on maintaining and improving its infrastructure, including streets, parks, facilities, and stormwater systems. The Deputy Director will oversee long-term maintenance planning, asset management programs, and public works maintenance operations.
Project Management & Collaborations: From delivering operational and capital projects to collaborating with engineers, consultants, and regulatory agencies, the Deputy Director will help guide the development of critical infrastructure projects that support the City’s growth and sustainability.
Community Engagement & Public Service: Serving the residents of San Marcos is at the heart of everything we do. The Deputy Director will engage with internal teams, external agencies, and the community, ensuring the delivery of high-quality public works services and addressing public inquiries and concerns.
Sustainability & Compliance: As part of the City’s commitment to sustainability, the Deputy Director will support initiatives aligned with the Climate Action Plan while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education/Training:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, civil engineering, business administration, construction management, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience, certification, or licensure may be considered in lieu of a degree. A Master’s degree is highly desirable.
Experience:
At least eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in public works management, infrastructure maintenance, or municipal operations, including at least four (4) years in a supervisory or management capacity.
Salary : $134,633 - $182,898
