The City of San Marcos is looking for energetic individuals to staff our Summer Fun Program. The program provides area children, ages 7 thru 14, with a fun-filled summer that includes games, activities and field trips! This is temporary employment. Summer Fun begins June 9, 2025. Camps run for 8 weeks – ending on August 1, 2025.
The Site Supervisor performs supervisory duties for Summer Fun Program Activity Leader positions; supervises children; administers program recreational activities; maintains campus site area.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Supervises Assistant Site Supervisor and Activity Leader positions; trains and educates workers concerning City and departmental policies and procedures; supervises and administers program activities on playground campus site for 150 participants.
- Performs child supervision duties for both on and off campus activities; administers first aid; enforces safety rules; fills out necessary forms and paperwork; and performs safety inspections daily.
- Encourages participation in activities, ensures children are always accounted for, and adheres to safety policies and procedures including pickup and drop off protocols.
- Organize and supervise recreational program activities on playground campus sites and offsite including structured activities; bowling, swimming, movies, and special field trips including transporting kids by bus.
- Maintains campus site area; cleans floors, picks up trash; cleans bathrooms and performs other janitorial work as needed.
- Miscellaneous: performs parent-child counseling when necessary.
DECISION MAKING
- Must be able to perform duties safely and apply policies and procedures appropriately.
- Supervise children at all times.
- Must be able to facilitate and supervise an atmosphere that encourages challenge, learning, and growth.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years related experience required
- Valid Texas Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
- CPR/First Aid Certification is required during week of training- administered by COSM.
- Reliable transportation and able to work the full 9 weeks with the program is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Extensive experience working with children is preferred.
- Must be able to read city and departmental policies, procedure manuals and memos. Writing skills are necessary to prepare reports, activity logs, safety inspection forms and accident reports.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are required; must be able to maintain positive working relationships with site personnel, supervisors, program participants, and parents.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include working outdoors in extreme heat, humidity and wind. Occasionally exposed to pool chemicals, slippery surfaces, and noise around crowds and whistles. Subject to standing, sitting, hearing, talking, vision, lifting up to 20 lbs., pushing, pulling, handling, fine dexterity, crouching, banding, twisting, climbing, balancing and reaching.
