Job Summary
JOB SUMMARY
Installs, repairs, and maintains line equipment on behalf of the San Marcos Electric Utility Department; connects commercial and residential electrical services; maintains and/or installs electric meters and streetlights; performs tree trimming; responds to power outages and/or other emergencies; operates and maintains various types of work equipment and tools; and performs other related duties. Rotates crews regularly and works under the direction of multiple Supervisors.
The Senior Lineworker works on Primary and Secondary Voltages and assists the Supervisor in training and directing personnel in the field along with completing paperwork as necessary.
Performs all duties as assigned to a Lineworker Helper, Apprentice I, II, III, IV and Lineworker.
Essential Functions And Decision Making
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs the duties of the Supervisor when the Supervisor is Absent:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or equivalent is required.Minimum three (3) years’ experience as a SMTXU lineworker is required.Must maintain valid Texas Class (A) Commercial Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.Basic computer skills to check emails and enter time worked are required.Must be able to lawfully report to duty within one (1) hour for emergency calls.Must reply to calls for assistance with power outages on nights and weekends within one (1) hour.Must live within one (1) hour of the City limits of San Marcos as determined by google maps.

Subject to vision and hearing constantly; standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling and balancing frequently; sitting, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, climbing to heights over thirty-five (35) feet high, talking and foot controls occasionally; crawling rarely.
Working conditions can involves exposure to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, heavy equipment/vehicles, high/low voltage electrical currents, hazardous chemicals/materials, wildlife, working at heights or confined spaces.

- Oversees job work function and safety of the crew.
- Prepares, maintains equipment and personnel hours for Maximo and Time Sheet reports.
- Writes and performs switching on primary circuits.
- Plans and oversees customer power outages and communicates directly with the customer regarding customer complaints.
- Troubleshoots and assists in resolving unplanned power outages.
- Participates in restoring power services in a safe and timely manner.
- Communicates with utility customers regarding electrical complaints, planned outages, and potential electric hazards.
- Prepares, updates, tracks, and maintains computerized work orders.
- Obtains and records transformer and meter information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- This position works under general supervision of the Supervisor and Department Manager.
- This position directs work of lineworkers and lineworker helpers and apprentices.
