What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Tennis Instructor position at City of Sandpoint?
The primary function of an employee in this position is to lead, oversee, and provide instruction for youth sports lessons. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, although some leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The principal duties of the position may be performed in an indoor or outdoor environment which may expose the employee to adverse weather conditions or excessive noise.

- Teaches sports lessons to youth participants.
- Performs set up and tear down of any equipment used for assigned sports lessons.
- Determines safety of equipment and playing conditions at lesson venue.
- Promotes a fun and positive learning environment by encouraging participants with positive reinforcement.
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge of:
- Teaching techniques and demonstration of skills or knowledge of assigned sports activity.
- Rules, regulations and technical fundamentals of assigned sports activity.
- Facility/equipment set-up and tear-down procedures.
- Basic first aid and safety precautions in the performance of assigned sports activity.
Ability to:
- Teach participants in the fundamental skills and techniques of assigned sports activity.
- Work with participants, both youth and adults, in group or individual settings according to assigned sports activity.
- Communicate effectively with the public, peers, sports participants, and other City employees.
- Demonstrate effective customer service and interpersonal skills.
Physical Demands:
- Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and to communicate effectively in person and on a telephone.
- Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and monitor participants.
- Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to teach and demonstrate skills for assigned sports activity.
- Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee run, jump, throw or perform physical tasks specific to assigned sports activity.
- Jobs in this class require performing repetitive motions in fingering and hand/wrist/arm movements. Related job tasks may require, with or without reasonable accommodation, lifting or moving up to 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally, and stooping, bending, crouching and reaching.
- Any combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Special Qualifications for all positions:
- First Aid/CPR certification is preferred.
- Satisfactory criminal background check for applicants 18 years of age or older.
