Description

This is a part-time position. The incumbent will work up to 19 hours per week. Work schedule may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Bilingual pay is an additional $1.01 / hour, if applicable.
There are currently four (5) vacancies in the following divisions : one (1) in Tech & Support Services, one (2) in Adult Services, one (1) in Youth Services, and one (1) in Outreach Services.
Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To
Assist library patrons in the effective use of Library collections, facilities and services. Respond to moderately difficult research, reference questions. Assist Librarians in reviewing and evaluating literature in specialized fields of knowledge for purchase by the Library. Assists with collection development and maintenance. Assists with outreach activities and with press releases, flyers and brochures. Assists with planning, preparing, promoting, and conducting a wide variety of library programs in a diverse community. Assists with or conducts library tours for schools, parents, and community groups. Visits schools and other community centers to provide and promote library programs and services. Assists with planning and preparing bibliographies and displays to inform and promote participation in library programs. Gather statistics and write routine reports. Refers more difficult problems concerning section or unit procedures and policies to the appropriate staff member. Participates cooperatively in work team activities and performs other related functions as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience in a library system, archives or special collections setting, or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the following knowledge and abilities below.
Knowledge of : principles, practices, methods and materials of modern public library systems; standard reference materials / methods; principles and techniques of classifying and cataloging and methods of library automation; popular authors and titles, literature, and current reading trends; basic use of office equipment, computers and printers, Windows environment, other software applications, Internet and database searching techniques, and the usage of technology in libraries.
Ability to : communicate effectively with different age groups; analyze data and write reports; assist with planning, organizing and overseeing program activities; assist with developing and refining procedures; perform simple computer troubleshooting tasks when necessary; maintain effective working relationships with the public, volunteers, and other employees.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per week including mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends. Possession and retention of a valid California Class C Driver's License is a condition of employment.
Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish or Vietnamese is highly desirable.

Part-Time employees accrue paid sick leave at the rate of one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every thirty (30) hours worked up to a maximum accrual of 6 days or 48 hours.
