Description

Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of receptionist duties including answering the telephone, greeting visitors, and assisting with related clerical activities.
There is currently one (1) vacancy in the Community Development Agency and one (1) vacancy in the Planning and Building Agency.
Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To
Receives a large volume of visitors and telephone calls, greets in-person visitors,determines nature of business, answers basic and routine questions, directs and assists callers to appropriate destinations, and takes messages. Represents the department and City on initial contact with the public. Compiles, tabulates, and assists in the preparation of routine reports. Keeps and maintains records. Performs a variety of routine clerical tasks, including basic data entry, filing, and sorting. Assists staff in assembling mailings. May receive, log, and distribute mail. Performs other functions as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of general office work involving substantial public contact and telephone work, and graduation from high school, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills and abilities.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of : business English and arithmetic; general office practices and procedures; proper telephone etiquette; effective communication techniques; principles and practices of exceptional customer service; and operation of modern office equipment, including personal computer software applications.
Ability to : follow oral and written instructions; learn departmental functions, activities, organizational structure and names of key personnel within a short period of time; handle a large volume of incoming calls and visitors promptly, tactfully, and equitably; communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; make simple arithmetic computations accurately; maintain effective working relationships with other City employees and the general public; and use general office software and equipment.

Must be fluent in English and Spanish or Vietnamese.

Oral Interview Examination (tentatively scheduled for March 4, 2025) : (Weight of 100%) will evaluate the candidates' experience, training, education, and abilities in relation to those factors which are essential for successful performance on the job. Candidates need a minimum passing score in order to be placed on the eligible list.
Candidates will be required to pass a bilingual oral fluency exam in Spanish or Vietnamese prior to job offer. Bilingual fluency pay is an additional $175 per month.
