THE POSITION
The City of Santa Barbara Public Works Department is seeking a knowledgeable Water Distribution Project Coordinator. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating and participating in the work of staff, contractors, and consultants responsible for providing work in the Water Distribution section. Performs highly skilled and technical tasks related to Water Distribution systems and the implementation and oversight of water distribution related programs. Develops Asset Management objectives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and works with staff and contactors to integrate and institutionalize use of databases. Develops programs and training for staff and contractors. This position acts as project manager for a variety of maintenance and repair projects, activities, and operations; implements and monitors assigned projects; ensures compliance with contract specifications. Makes recommendations to City Project Engineers to scope projects and develop plans and specifications, and for solutions to problems encountered during construction. Serves as a liaison between Water Distribution and Engineering on Capital Improvement projects. Oversees work performed by outside contractors and consultants; meets with contractors and staff to identify and resolve problems; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures. Determines compliance with project plans and specifications. Provides performance management support (regular report process), including the following: report building (Excel, CMMS software reports) and execution; report maintenance, keeping report queries up-dated and regulatory reporting.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the journey level position in the job series. Employees within this class performs the full range of duties as assigned in an independent manner, implementing programs, projects, systems, and processes within the established guidelines. These employees serve as a lead and provide training to lower-level staff. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of water distribution facilities or an equivalent type of facility. Experience using computers as tools for presenting information for decision making purposes.
Education and/or Training:
Vocational/technical degree with emphasis in water distribution systems, water resources, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
License, Certificate and/or Other Requirements:
State of California Water Distribution D3 certification is required at time of appointment and a D4 State of California Water Distribution D4 certification is desirable.
