Description/Duties & Responsibilities

The City of Santa Clarita is recruiting for part-time, temporary, seasonal (PTS) Recreation Leader Is to lead youth ages 5 to 11 in the Summer Adventures program at the Canyon Country Community Center.

The Summer Adventures program provides youth 5 to 11 with a summer filled with a variety of age-appropriate activities, including STEAM projects, organized sports and games, arts and crafts, outdoor water play, and more! With an environment that fosters growth and development through recreational and creative activities, this program is tailored to engage and inspire. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with youth, being creative, and making a difference in the community.

Summer programs run from June 16-August 8, 2025. Staff training begins on June 9, 2025.

These positions are expected to work up to 40 hours per week based on the needs of the program; Monday-Friday with shifts between 7:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Organizes, plans, and works directly with leadership staff to implement the Summer Adventures program and prepare activities for youth
  • Supervises and leads youth in activities, such as games, sports, arts and crafts, water activities, and presentations
  • Ensures a fun and safe environment for participants while maintaining youth and staff safety
  • Assists in organization, set-up, and clean-up of facility
  • Assists with decorating bulletin boards
  • Greets patrons and participants and answers inquiries regarding programs
  • Provides excellent customer service and positive interactions with campers, parents, other staff, and supervisors
  • Effectively addresses issues and concerns with youth as they arise
  • Maintains various forms, logs, reports, and inventory
  • Performs first aid and responds to emergencies; reports incidents and accidents
  • Attends meetings and training sessions, which will be valuable additions to your resume
  • Follows and enforces City policies as they relate to the health, behavior, and safety of others
  • Performs other duties, as directed by the Recreation and Community Services Supervisor, Coordinator, and/or Recreation Leaders II/III

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is highly desirable
  • Six months of paid or volunteer experience working with children, planning and leading activities, or other relatable program setting
  • Completion of college courses is highly desirable
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish highly desirable
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid certification by June 16, 2025 (Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid course will be offered during paid Staff Training)
  • A combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered

In compliance with California law, positions working with children are required to be mandated child abuse reporters. A mandated reporter is an individual who is obligated by law to report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.

In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.

PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours.
