SALARY :LOCATION : Saratoga Springs City Hall Mayor / Building Department
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : The following qualification(s) MUST be met and clearly detailed on the application form on or before the last filing date :
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Building or Construction Science, Engineering, Architecture or a related field; OR
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two (2) year college with an AAS degree in Building or Construction Science, Engineering, Architecture or a related field and TWO (2) years of full-time paid experience supervising the construction of buildings as a building contractor, construction supervisor or construction foreman; OR
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in any field and FOUR (4) years of full-time paid experience supervising the construction of buildings as a building contractor, construction supervisor or construction foreman.
SPECIAL NOTES :
Acceptable experience is defined as : general construction work involving building, repairing and / or modernizing buildings, houses, and other structures.
Activities primarily involve the performance of a variety of skilled construction and / or maintenance tasks in areas such as, but not limited to, carpentry, finishing carpentry, rough carpentry, plumbing, erection of a building, masonry.

The Appointing Authority requires the candidate to successfully complete the New York State required Building Inspector courses.
QUALFIED MUNICIPAL BUILDING AND PLUMBING INSPECTOR OR ASSISTANT BUILDING AND PLUMBING INSPECTOR EXPERIENCE CAN BE SUBSTITUTED FOR AN EQUIVALENT AMOUNT OF THE ABOVE REQUIRED EXPERIENCE.
- Candidate must possess a valid New York State Driver’s license at time of appointment. Incumbent must maintain a valid New York State Driver’s license throughout employment.
- Degree must have been awarded by a college or university by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the US Department of Education / US Secretary of Education.
If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.

DUTIES :
Under the general supervision of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor and the direct supervision by the Zoning & Building Inspector this position is responsible for assisting in the review of plans and specifications submitted with applications for local building permits, and for inspecting buildings both erected and under construction and / or repair for compliance with approved plans and specifications and for compliance with the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, the Zoning Ordinance, the State Energy Code, and the Multiple Residence Law.
This position is primarily that of an Assistant to the Building Inspector, and assumes the responsibility for the Zoning & Building Inspector in his absence.
Supervision isexercised over the any clerical staff . Assists in the inspection of new construction and / or repairs to buildings and structures, and the administration and enforcement of the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, the Zoning Laws of the City of Saratoga Springs, the State Energy Conservation Construction Code, the New York State Multiple Residence Law, and other related laws and codes;
does related work as required.
