LOCATION: City of Saratoga Springs - Mayor’s Office – Planning Department
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualification(s) MUST be met and clearly stated on the City of Saratoga Springs employment application form: either
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Masters Certificate in Planning, Urban Geography, Architecture, Public Policy, Geographic Information Systems, Public Administration, Economics or a closely related field and TWO (2) YEARS of full time paid paraprofessional planning experience OR
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Planning, Urban Geography, Architecture, Public Policy, Geographic Information Systems Public Administration, Economics or a closely related field and ONE (1) YEAR of full time paid paraprofessional planning experience OR
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Planning, Urban Geography, Architecture, Public Policy, Geographic Information Systems Public Administration, Economics or a closely related field and THREE (3) YEARS of full time paid paraprofessional planning experience
SPECIAL NOTES
- Applicants with American Institute of Certified Planners certification are desired.
- Must possess a valid NYS Driver’s License and must maintain said license for the duration of employment.
DUTIES: This position performs a range of non-supervisory paraprofessional level responsibilities relating to City planning, zoning, economic and community development and assisting in the preparation of City planning policy documents, land use plans, ordinances, regulations and reports. This position requires considerable communication with public officials, civic organizations, lawyers, architects, engineers, land surveyors, developers, developers, contractors and the public. General supervision is provided by the Administrator of the office of Planning and Economic Development. Supervision is not a responsibility of this position. The incumbent does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITES: Illustrative only
- Reviews architecture/subdivision/site plans to assure compliance with requirements such as use, bulk, placement, and parking ratios;
- Prepares narrative staff reports and recommendations of limited complexity such as special use permits, site plan review and variances;
- Prepares public notices of property owner verifications; Prepares maps, charts, tables, presentation graphics;
- Provides technical assistance and information to staff and the public in the administration of specific planning programs areas or ordinances;
- Researches and complies information on a variety of planning issues from multiple sources;
- Investigates and responds to inquiries on planning regulations, requirements and ordinances;
- Assists other planning staff, as appropriate, including attendance at public and periodic evening meetings;
- Provides staff assistance to special committee, ad hoc groups, and varied initiatives and work tasks, as appropriate;
