The City of Saratoga Springs currently has an opening for a Reserve Officer. This is a part-time position with the Saratoga
Springs Police Department working approximately ten to twenty-five hours per week. Successful applicants must be Utah P.O.S.T. L.E.O.
certified.
The position performs a variety of technical law enforcement duties related to enforcing the laws, maintaining the peace,
supporting police department operations and protecting the citizens of Saratoga Springs.
This is a great opportunity for a retired officer or a recent POST academy graduate who desires to maintain POST
certification and work part time in law enforcement. More information about the community and the Police Department

Job Responsibilities
Reserve Officer
- Performs a variety of on call law enforcement duties as needed to assist full time officers in the performance of their duties
- May support search and rescue operations
- Responds to calls to duty in the event of an emergency or natural disaster
- May write case reports, arrest reports, complaint reports, witness statements, etc.
- Appears and testifies in court
- Performs traffic enforcement and routine patrol
- Operates the breathalyzer and radar equipment
- Conducts security checks of business and residential establishments
- Issues citations to traffic violators
- May perform School Resource Officer duties
- Performs other duties as assigned
If / When Assigned as a Bailiff :
Provides full performance security in the court to maintain courtroom orderProvides protection of court personnel and facilitiesTransporting prisoners to and from the court and jailObtains commitment orders and reviews for completenessAssures proper case numbersProcesses commitments according to established proceduresAssures proper processing of prisoners when bookedMay open court by announcing entrance of the judgeSeats witnesses and jurors in specified areas of courtroomObserves courtroom to insure that proper conduct and order are maintainedEjects or arrests individuals disturbing proceedingsObserves courtroom congregation for violations of regulations such as unacceptable or inappropriate use of microphones, cameras, movie cameras, or any other device that would prove disruptive or threaten the security of court proceedingsCarries out instructions of the judgeEnsures public contact and conversation with the jury is limited in order to avoid exposure to prejudice partiesAscertains and informs the judge that counsel and parties are present and ready to proceedSummons witnesses who have been requestedEscorts jury to lunch, deliberation, or scene of the crime when ordered to view premises of the sameDelivers all formal correspondence from the juryGenerally directs the affairs of jury to assure jurors perform assignments and abide by rules and regulationsActs as official custodian of courtroom by overseeing heating, ventilation, lighting, furniture, and availability of visual aidsSelects suitable accommodations for use of sequestered juriesMaintains record of jury expenses for court clerkAssists witnesses, litigants, and public by answering questions about court procedures, but does not give legal advice or discuss merits of case on trialMay serve warrants of arrest and take persons into custodyConducts pat-down search to remove personal items of persons taken into custody or as directed by the courtPerforms other duties as assignedQualifications
Education & Experience :
Applicants must be 21 years of age or older at the time of employmentA High School Diploma or GED equivalentCertifications Required :
Applicants must possess Utah P.O.S.T Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) certification or Special Function Officer (SFO) certification in good standingApplicants must possess a valid Utah state driver's license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employmentKnowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of court security proceduresKnowledge of community-oriented policingKnowledge of patrol operationsKnowledge of criminal investigationsKnowledge of report writingKnowledge of safety standards related to the use of vehicles, firearms, and other police equipmentWorking Conditions

SALARY RANGE :
Full wage range is as follows, please note hiring will normally occur at the minimum of the range and will not exceed the midpoint.
Min : $22.19
Mid : $26.62
Max : $31.06
