This position inspects all aspects of electrical systems to ensure the safety of the public and obtain compliance with the National Electric Code.

Reviews and approves wiring diagrams.
Inspects work sites to ensure code compliance.
Answers inquiries and provides information regarding local and national electrical codes.
Maintains documentation logs and records of inspections; prepares legal testimony of code violations.
Responds to complaints of unsafe electrical conditions.
Issues electrical permits.
Confers with clients and contractors on plan revisions.
Assists other inspectors as necessary.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED plus two (2) years formal classroom training required in electrical installation and circuitry with three years of journey-level electrician experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires an Electrical Contractor license with the State of Georgia within twelve (12) months from employment date.
Requires ICC Commercial and Residential Electrical Inspector certification within twelve (12) months from employment date.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
Knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
Knowledge of the tools and techniques used in plan review and electrical inspections.
Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
Skill in establishing priorities and organizing work.
Skill in the operation of computers and other modern office equipment.

MINIMUM STANDARDS:
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Electrical Plans Examiner assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include the National Electrical Code, International Building Codes, and National Fire Prevention Association Codes. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied plan review and inspection duties. Strict regulations contribute to the complexity of the position.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to ensure that electrical plans and installations meet minimum code requirements. Successful performance in this position contributes to the safety of Savannah residents and visitors.
PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers, other city personnel, engineers, contractors, utility personnel, and members of the general public.
