What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Worker - Commercial Refuse position at City of Savannah?
Purpose
Essential Job Functions
- Assist with maintenance functions, such as repair of trash compactors and/or report damages and maintain equipment to be in good working order.
- Maintain area surrounding compactors; keep area clean of trash, debris and/or any objects in the view or usage of compactor.
- Maintain weekly maintenance on equipment as scheduled.
- Required to maintain daily general reports.
- Uses hand or power tools if needed.
- Monitors and inspects compactor to ensure it is acceptable and contains no hazardous materials.
- Directs customers if needed of proper use and operation of containers; ensures refuse is placed in proper container.
- Operates electric/ hydraulic refuse compactors in a safe and effective manner.
- Picks up supplies and equipment from the warehouse.
- Assists with the storage (maintaining the stock and inventory) and distribution of supplies and equipment to division employees.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent; six (6) months of related maintenance experience necessary.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
Work Location: 1809 US Hwy 80 ; Work Hours: Varies
This is a critical workforce and safety sensitive position.
Additional Requirements
Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.
