Pool Operator
Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Public Works or his/her designee. Responsible for routine maintenance, construction & repair of park and recreational lands, facilities and boulevards within the geographical area of the City of Scranton. Responsible for the operational functions related to the City of Scranton Show Mobile & Swimming Pools. Light or heavy physical labor combined with both indoor and outdoor work.

Responsible for routine maintenance, construction & repair of park and recreational lands, facilities and boulevards within the geographical area of the City of Scranton. Responsible for the operational functions related to the City of Scranton Show Mobile & Swimming Pools. Light or heavy physical labor combined with both indoor and outdoor work.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Opening and Closing all City pools and bath houses, including necessary repairs
- Emptying and cleaning all City pools of each season.
- Must keep logbooks as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Health of all inspections.
- Routine maintenance of parks & boulevards, including mowing, tree trimming, planting, fertilizing, etc.
- Snow removal, trash/pickup removal.
- Preparing athletic fields and repair of play equipment.
- Maintenance of equipment of minor nature.
- A background in the operation and function of commercial swimming pools and pumps is necessary.
- This work requires a considerable amount of math and chemistry calculations on a regular basis to properly perform the duties of this job classification as related to the structure and function of the City’s swimming pools.
- Considerable knowledge of concrete and plaster skills are necessary, related to the structure, repair and function of the City’s swimming pools.
- Successful applicant will provide his/her own tools to perform the required skills and duties.
- Successful applicants must be a Certified Pool & Spa Operator (CPO) and must hold and maintain CPO certification.
- Pesticide Applicator Certification in Core (00) and Swimming Pools (24)
- A high school diploma or equivalency and valid driver’s license are required for the position.
