The Facilities Division places a very strong emphasis on providing excellent customer service to the public, clients and staff as well as helping to ensure public safety and enjoyment while they are at SPR facilities and parks.
We are currently seeking qualified candidates with the ability to diagnose, install, repair, and maintain electrical equipment, electrical systems, and electrical control systems. The position requires a journey-level knowledge of electrical concepts, principles, methods and codes and a full knowledge of the operational aspects of both electrical equipment and systems. This work is integral in keeping our many facilities operational for over 1,500 employees as well as our vast customer base. This position is represented by IBEW, Local 46.We are currently recruiting for multiple regular, full-time positions in our Electric Shop working a 4-day, 10-hour shift.
These positions will report to the Seattle Parks & Recreation Electrical Crew Chief.
- Perform Journey-level electrical work on Parks owned facilities & structures.
- Diagnose & repair malfunctions in electrical equipment or control systems such as boilers, pumps, lift stations, generators, air compressors, frequency drives, fire alarms, and indoor/outdoor lighting.
- May troubleshoot systems which include some electronics.
- Installs lighting fixtures, power outlets, control devices, heaters, thermostats, computer cables or cathodic protection equipment.
- Conducts preventative maintenance on electrical and electronic equipment.
- Purchases and/or orders electrical supplies or parts from vendors, warehouse, or distributors
- Work with computerized systems such as HVAC control systems and Irrigation control systems
- Estimate and requisition materials for work activities; maintain records of job time and materials.
- Runs conduit and pulls wire for new and/or existing electrical installations.
- Modifies or rewires existing electrical installations.
- Change lamps in fluorescent, incandescent, LED, and H.I.D. fixtures.
- Assists in Energy Conservation Projects including boiler and lighting projects.
- Install temporary power systems for special events.
- Reviews blueprints, electrical schematics, project plans and specifications of electrical equipment installations.
- Coordinates work activities with other trades crews and other city departments
- Trains Apprentices.
- Use utility locating equipment to locate and mark park’s owned utilities.
- Performs project inspections.
- Construction work- New electrical services.
- Modify electrical systems.
- Maintain and test emergency generator systems.
- Maintain security systems.
- VFD Installations.
- Tenant finish work.
- New boiler installations/Including emergency shut off controls.
- Pump/Lift station control wiring.
- Installing new EV Charging stations and power for charging stations for new Battery-operated equipment for grounds.
- High work (Ballfields) up to 125’.
- Pool cover control install / Sauna controls.
- Fire alarm and PLC trouble shooting.
- Installing and maintaining equipment for energy management projects such as lighting systems/solar systems/UPS systems.
- Install and maintain transformer equipment and automatic generation control equipment such as ATS.
- Diagnoses, repairs, and replaces water-Level Monitoring and control systems Hoisting equipment.
- Operates and maintains specialized mobile equipment and vehicles.
- Maintain continuous education classes to our STATE EL-01 JOURNEYMAN ELECTRICAL LICENSE.
- Adapting to ever-changing technology to keep up with the Parks department needs of administrative work and Trades.
- CIP project work.
- Support Downtown Association workload.
- Repair and/or replace vandalized equipment.
- Installation/coordination of new light poles – coordinate with other trades trenching, assisting setting sauna tubes, setting J bolts, pipe work, and setting pole light.
- Performs other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an accepted four-year apprenticeship training program and journey-level electrician status (Or an equivalent combination of education and/or training and/or experience).
You’ll be most successful in this position if you have:
- Two or more years of experience working as a journey-level electrician.
- Certification in fire alarm systems / confidence testing.
- One or more years of experience estimating cost of projects accurately and working within the budget.
- Experience in the use of utility locating equipment.
- Be highly motivated and able to work as a team member in a demanding work environment, meeting tight deadlines.
- Be able to communicate facts and ideas clearly, both orally and in writing, to a variety of contractors, vendors, and department personnel.
- Initiative and independent judgment within defined procedures and practices required.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to use standard office software and work order/asset management systems for tasks such as record-keeping, reporting, and communication.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively prioritize and schedule maintenance tasks, aligning them with programming needs.
- Experience in interacting with the public coupled with a high level of proficiency in customer service.
- Experience maintaining multiple municipal or large commercial facilities.
License, Certification and Other Requirements:
-Current Washington State driver's license. A current, "FULL" driving abstract from the Department of Licensing submitted upon offer of employment. Candidates with driving history that does not meet our current safety standards will be disqualified from consideration. Current City of Seattle Employees in a driving position may be required to submit an updated abstract.
-Current (not expired) State of Washington, (EL01) - Journey Level, Electrical License.Work Environment/Physical Demands/Other:
- Current shift schedules are 4/10 (4 days a week – 10-hour days)
- May be required to work on-call (additional compensation is provided for this work)
- Works occasionally with electrically energized lines when power cannot be disconnected.
- Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions.
- Bend, walk, and crawl for extended periods of time.
- Work with toxic/hazardous substances.
- Work at extreme heights with ladders/articulating lifts up to 125’, boom trucks, or on scaffolding, lift objects weighing in excess of 50lbs.
- Work in cramped and/or confined spaces.
- Dependent on business needs, candidates may be required to obtain a respirator clearance fit test.
The full salary range for this position is $56.21 - $60.80 per hour.
