Janitor (Seattle City Light)

Seattle City Light is hiring for two janitorial positions. As a member of the City Light custodial crew, you will provide cleaning and recycling services at various City Light Facilities. These positions report to the Building/Facilities Operations Supervisor.

Here is more about what you’ll be doing: 

• Cleans restrooms, locker rooms, facilities, and offices in assigned buildings and building areas at various City Light sites.
• Gathers and disposes of trash and wastes; replenishes restroom supplies; washes walls and windows; dusts furniture; polishes metal work.
• Collects and recycles various materials (paper, cans, bottles, etc.) to reduce disposal costs; monitors volume, checks for contaminants and initiates removal or regrading.
• Cleans lighting fixtures, windows, windowsills, screens, tops of windows, door frames, and other high areas.
• Cleans, strips, waxes, and polishes floors. Operates mechanical cleaners, polishers or other specialized floor care equipment.
• Assists in moving furniture and other objects on occasional basis.
• Sweeps outside areas and sidewalks and removes trash.
• Performs basic maintenance on equipment.
• Reports evidence of damage and vandalism.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has: 

• Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.
• Frequently required to lift objects weighing 50 pounds or less.
• Requires handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances.
• Required to work outdoors in all types of weather.
• Required to work on ladders/scaffolding above ground level.

Licenses & Certifications: Current Washington State Driver's License or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:  

• Six months of janitorial services experience (combination of education, training and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).
• Experience cleaning a variety of building types and/or structures with different business uses; and experience with waste and recycling programs. Restroom and office cleaning experience preferred.
• Ability to work both independently (without supervision) and in a team environment with good interpersonal skills.

The full salary range for this position is $25.94 to $29.25 per hour.
