About the Finance Division
Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is looking for an innovative, detail-oriented people leader who will deliver excellent customer service to all employees and build a strong and engaged team.
As part of Seattle Parks and Recreation’s (SPR’s) Finance and Administration Services Division, the Payroll Supervisor is responsible for supervising a team of three within the Payroll team. The Payroll Supervisor reports to the Accounting Manager. This individual will perform a variety of professional payroll and benefits functions for our large department.
- Manage a payroll team to process bi-weekly payroll for 1000 SPR employees adhering to strict deadlines and conducting internal audits of labor charges for compliance with personnel policies and 20 bargaining agreements.
- Manage payroll process in Workday (Finance &HR system) to ensure all wages, deductions, and payroll elements are correct for each payroll run.
- Lead, supervise, and motivate payroll team.
- Research personal rules, labor relations and benefits to fix payroll issues.
- Prepare ad hoc payroll related reports to supervisors and management.
- Respond to employees and management regarding payroll inquires.
- Provides guidance and recommendations on Payroll issues, policies, and procedures.
- Assists in development and modification of internal payroll control policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requires a minimum of three years experience involving finance-related responsibilities and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public or Personnel Administration, Accounting or related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class.
Desired Qualifications - You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
- 2 years of working experience with Workday Payroll system for a highly unionized workforce.
- Understands HR and Payroll related rules such as Benefits, Retirement, and Labor Relations.
- Leadership competencies that will promote high quality standards and teamwork to accomplish goals.
- Experience utilizing databases or data warehouse reporting tools to conduct financial research or analysis.
- Superb problem-solving, decision making and communication skills to assist employees and management with often complex issues.
- A great track record of working inclusively with staff and employees with diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency working with business payroll or accounting software.
- The ability to work independently to complete deadlines and enjoys working in a fast-moving, collaborative, team-oriented environment.

The full salary range for this position is $47.54 to $55.32 per hour.
