Position Description
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) Waste Prevention & Diversion Group is seeking three (3) graduate interns to support work within the Solid Waste Division. Successful interns will learn about the Recycling, Composting and Outreach Programs. Interns will assist with recycling and composting outreach and education to Seattle businesses and single and multi-family residents. They will report to the Manager of one of these programs: Commercial, Multi-family, or Single-family Recycling & Composting.

Job Responsibilities
Under direct supervision, the interns will learn through practical training about various aspects of community outreach in support of SPU's Recycling, Composting & Outreach Programs.
Duties may include, but not limited to:
Qualifications
Education: Applicants must be currently enrolled in graduate-level coursework, pursuing a degree related to Environmental, Communications, Public Administration, Planning, Community Engagement or a closely related field.
Applicants must be enrolled at least part-time or full-time and maintain a 3.0 GPA for the duration of the internship.
Exception: Students do not need to be enrolled over the summer months but will need to provide at the end of Spring Quarter/Semester proof of continuing and pre-registration for the Fall session as applicable.
Licensing and Other Requirements: A Washington State Driver's license is required for this internship in order to operate a City vehicle to outreach events and site visits.
Additional Information
This internship allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.

Job Responsibilities

- Perform periodic site visits to provide education, outreach, and field inspections at Seattle businesses and multi-family properties
- Respond to customers' and contractors' inquiries
- Deliver materials to businesses, residences, and contractors
- Organize and manage inventory of posters, stickers, and supplies
- Create custom flyers, posters, and various outreach materials for commercial and multi-family customers
- Create content for online tools and newsletters about recycling, composting, and waste disposal
- Update program database and/or activity files.
