Position Description
Seattle City Light, a department of the City of Seattle, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. The Technical Support intern will contribute to the effective delivery of technology services by acting as a liaison with Seattle IT services to assist with device and asset management. The intern will assist in coordinating IT device Replacements and Decommissions requests, run updates on shared devices. In addition, perform Quality Assurance checks on newly received/serviced desktops and laptops and facilitate basic Help Desk requests for SCL employees and coordinate with Seattle IT for further assistance/evaluation.

Internship Duration and Hours: Year-long: The timeframe of this internship will be one year in duration, with either a May (semester schools) or June (quarter schools) 2025 start date. Working hours are up to 40 per week during the summer, and a max of 20 per week during the academic year.
Interns must have a Washington State address and live in Washington State at the time of hire and for the duration of their employment.
Benefits: Interns do not receive benefits but can obtain a subsidized ORCA pass and accrue sick time that can be used after 90 days of employment.

- Troubleshoot and handle minor IT issues that require patches and updates; Act as a liaison with Seattle IT to determine appropriate course of action.

- Coordinate with a broad range of audiences including IT, executives, hiring managers, project managers, and staff to achieve project goals.
- Customer service orientation which includes the ability to effectively work in a multicultural workplace and all segments of the utility.
Project(s) Scope:
- Learn the IT Service Hub to process asset management and lifecycle replacement of devices.
- Provide technical advice for customers seeking recommendations from the IT Product Catalog
- Consult with Seattle IT for hardware requirements for specialized systems.
- Assist with setting up and maintaining computers, laptops and peripherals.
- Create supporting documents to assist new staff with common technical questions (ex: using the City’s Software Center and how to install network printers).
- Replace and set up malfunctioning monitors, cables and other peripherals.
Required Qualifications:
Undergraduate students will need to maintain a 2.0 GPA or above throughout the internship.
Areas of Study
- Enrolled in an accredited certificate, 2-year or 4-year undergraduate program during their internship.
- Enrolled in an academic program with focus on Computer Science, Computer Systems, Cybersecurity, Information Technology or related field.
You will be successful if you have the following experience, skills, and abilities:
- Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Fundamental knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft Suite.
- Fundamental knowledge in application development using MA Power Apps.
