Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking a strong and reliable leader to serve as the Tolt Treatment Plant Manager. This position is essential to ensuring all Seattle residents and wholesale customers receive safe, high-quality water every single day.

As the Tolt Treatment Plant Manager, you will be at the forefront of ensuring water quality and operational excellence. You’ll be responsible for managing plant operations, overseeing maintenance activities, and ensuring compliance with all State, Federal, and local drinking water regulations. Your leadership will play a key role in maintaining Seattle’s reputation for high-quality water and environmental stewardship.

As the Tolt Treatment Plant Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the plant’s operations, maintenance, and regulatory compliance. Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage plant operations – Oversee daily activities, project schedules, and contracts to ensure smooth operations while minimizing disruptions
  • Lead and develop staff – Participate in hiring, conduct performance reviews, and support the professional growth of team members
  • Oversee budgeting and contracts – Manage an annual O&M and CIP budget of $8–20 million and participate in negotiating contracts for chemicals, mechanical services, and preventative maintenance
  • Ensure regulatory compliance – Provide input on regulatory policies, maintain compliance with State, Federal, and local drinking water standards, and communicate with regulators on reports, surveys, and project reviews

Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, facility management, or related field

AND

Experience: Five (5) years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment in a water treatment plant and related facilities; including supervisory experience. Additionally, there is no substitution for supervisory experience. 


Certification/License: WTPO 4 is required

Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.

  • Ability to coach and motivate employees, encourage teamwork, and promote high standards of core service delivery
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to articulate complex issues to leadership, staff and stakeholders
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to work with people from diverse professional, cultural backgrounds
  • The ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and collaborate effectively at all organizational levels
  • Being responsive to operational and emergency needs of the plant and the ability to work under pressure

The full salary range for this position is: $124,758.00 - $187,105.68 Annually
