What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Public Works position at City of Seguin?
- Manages the facilities, equipment, personnel, budget, and operations of the City’s Public Works and Vehicle Maintenance work groups;
- Ensures safe and efficient operations of the work groups being supervised;
- Understand MS4 permit processes and procedures which include but are not limited to directing daily task record keeping, data collection and reporting under the MS4 permit.
- Interviews, makes recommendations on hiring, promoting, and discipline of employees;
- Follows and enforces all City policies including personnel, safety, purchasing etc;
- Develops and implements inclement weather plans with regards to roads. Also to include shift rotation amongst Public Works personnel.
- Supervises and evaluates subordinate employees;
- Oversees training of employees, including regular safety meetings;
- Plans, directs, organizes, and coordinates the activities of the Public Works work groups, including Streets, Brush, ROW Mowing, Drainage and Vehicle Maintenance;
- Oversees street paving and maintenance operations including scheduling, notification, personnel, ordering, staging, equipment, traffic control, barricading, flagging (stop/slow), etc;
- Oversees the asphalt recycling program which includes the recycling and screening of all material removed from the Asphalt Zipper project.
- Collaborate with both Fire and Police personnel to have a “Safety Plan” prepared prior to different City of Seguin events.
- Ensure all required barricading and roads blockages are in place for all city parades.
- Adheres to appropriate purchasing policies and procedures;
- Observes safety rules and procedures; and

State of Texas Class C driver's license.
