What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Maintenance Worker - Parks position at City of Sequim?
The City of Sequim’s Parks Division is seeking two Seasonal Maintenance Workers to help maintain and enhance our ten beautiful city parks. Working under the general supervision of the Parks & Events Manager, these positions play a vital role in ensuring that City properties and public spaces remain clean, safe, and welcoming for residents and visitors. Responsibilities include performing a variety of routine maintenance, landscaping, repairs, and installations related to parks, facilities, and other public infrastructure. While these roles primarily support the Parks Division, assignments may extend to other functional areas as needed.
These temporary positions are expected to last up to six months, with one role running from April to September and the other from May to October. The positions are eligible for PERS retirement contributions and sick leave but do not include medical insurance or other City benefits.
This position may be assigned to different functional areas including street, water, sewer, parks and facilities. Work duties may include, but are not limited to, any combination of:- Uses a wide variety of tools and equipment to perform area cleaning, digging ditches, moving debris or dirt;
- Monitors various equipment to determine status relative to safety standards; repairs broken or malfunctioning equipment.
- Landscapes, maintains and repairs public streets and facilities;
- Provides services for lawn care, flower maintenance, tree trimming, and other upkeep of city parks and trails;
- Performs routine maintenance duties on pumps and other equipment within the water and sewer systems;
- Drives city vehicles, and operates a variety of heavy equipment;
- May work weekend events, i.e. hauling trash, signs/banners, tents, etc.;
- Performs other duties as assigned; and
- Responds to questions and complaints from the public pertaining to this job function.
- Skill in operating and maintaining power tools and hand tools;
- Knowledge of basic building maintenance techniques;
- Knowledge of basic safety procedures and precautions; ability to assess potentially dangerous situations and request assistance as necessary;
- Knowledge and experience in the use of heavy commercial vehicles and heavy equipment;
- Ability to follow verbal and written directions and work effectively as a member of a crew;
- Ability to project a commitment to public service and work with the public in a friendly, tactful and caring manner;
- Ability to interact effectively with co-workers demonstrating respect and courtesy;
- Maintenance of good physical condition and overall stamina to perform moderate to strenuous physical activity such as standing for long periods of time, traversing rough terrain, working at heights, lifting and carrying heavy loads. Incumbent will need to climb, bend and work in tight or confined areas.
