Calling all Civil Engineering Students! If you are looking for a summer internship where you will get hands-on experience, look no further. The City of Shawnee is hiring for a seasonal Engineering Intern. This position will assist the Public Works Engineering staff and the Assistant Public Works Director with a variety of duties related to civil engineering, project management and public infrastructure maintenance. This employee should be flexible and possess exceptional communication, research, analytical, organizational and computer skills. Interaction is direct with the public, contractors, vendors, consultants and other departments of the City. The hiring range for this position begins at $16 per hour for current college students, and $17.50 per hour for graduates of a Bachelor's program.
Position Responsibilities
Capital Improvement Projects. Assist in updating project schedules, updating the bid database, and processing invoices.
Field Work. Perform project inspection duties in the field. Perform minor surveying tasks in the field. Measure quantities in the field for use in project pay estimates. Assist Public Works maintenance crews and gain exposure to field maintenance activities.
AutoCAD / GIS. Perform updates on City Standard Details in CAD. Prepare maps and exhibits using GIS for reports/presentations.
Grants / Accreditation / Permitting. Assist with preparation of grants, APWA accreditation documents, and permit documents related to ROW, etc.
Support. Support other departments and perform other duties, as deemed necessary or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

In general, this position requires a commitment of 35 - 40 hours per week during the summer months, with some flexibility depending on the student's other commitments. Attendance at weekend and evening events is optional.

- High School Diploma required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field OR enrollment towards a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and some course work in a related field.
