Description
The Management Intern will assist in a variety of projects and events for the benefit of the organization. Under the supervision of the Assistant City Manager, this position serves as a training ground for students interested in becoming involved in local government. The student selected for this internship will be provided experience in writing, research, policy development, administrative operations, and municipal functions. This internship provides a unique opportunity for a student to work with community members, city staff, and professional organizations. Additionally, this internship is a customizable experience and an individual can tailor their internship based on their interests and the organization’s goals. The hiring range for this position begins at $16 per hour for current college students, and $17.50 per hour for graduates of a Bachelor's program.
Position Responsibilities
Policy Research & Development. Conduct comparative research and summarize municipal policies and procedures. Draft memos for senior management, based upon research projects, including recommendations.
City Programs and Special Projects. Assist staff in the coordination and deployment of City programs and special projects. Complete special projects and assignments as needed to support the City Manager's Office and the Governing Body. Assist City staff with Moonlight Market event planning and participate in event day-of coordination and engagement. Work with other department interns on completion of a capstone project, including final report and presentation to City staff.
Budget Development. Assist the Finance team in the development of the City's annual budget. Coordinate with various departments to develop program inventories used in Priority Based Budgeting. Assist staff in tracking, managing, and reporting on the City's budget and expenditures.
Learning & Development. Expand knowledge base by participating in webinars, observing meetings, attending professional gatherings with city management, observing the City’s Governing Body, and meeting with community members, organizations, and City staff. Other Duties. Support other departments and perform other duties, as deemed necessary or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Requirements
Work Schedule
This position requires a commitment of 20 hours per week during the summer months. Schedule will be primarily Monday - Friday daytime hours with alterations to schedule determined by department needs. The position may require occasional attendance at night meetings and/or evening/weekend City activities.

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements
- Enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work public administration.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint
- Strong foundation in writing reports, articles and summaries.
- Deadline driven
- Able to manage multiple projects and work under pressure either independently or with a team
- Strong planning, organization and time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to edit their own work and the work of others
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Strong public relations skills
