As a safety-sensitive classification, you will be subject to drug and alcohol testing, including random testing. Marijuana is one of the substances included in the drug panel screening. Possession of a medical marijuana certification will not excuse you from the testing process, or the consequences of testing positive for marijuana. PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: Under general direction from the Parks and Recreation Manager, the Parks Maintenance Supervisor assists with supervising and coordinating the daily activities of the Parks Maintenance Division. Work varies, requiring independent judgment in overseeing and coordinating division activities within established policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Physical demands include bending, stooping, climbing, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking on rough or uneven terrain, kneeling, and pulling or lifting up to 50#s (greater with assistance).Work is often performed in uncontrollable working conditions of inclement weather of heat, cold, dampness, dust, moderate noise levels, and hazardous chemicals; Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License. Must have a Class B CDL or higher or the ability to gain the certification by one year anniversary of the position.Ability to train and lead subordinates and assist with coordinating and implementing all safety-related issues and guidelines.Ability to train, supervise, evaluate, and assist park workers in the maintenance and repair of park facilities. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Supervises and operates this division in the City Works program, including service requests, work orders, and reporting. Serves as the main contact person for contract crews and project plans. Coordinates with various groups as needed. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and other web-based software. MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND PERFORMANCE: · Works with the Parks and Recreation Manager in assessing projects, plans, and repairs in the Parks Division; evaluates the maintenance of park grounds and facilities and conducts safety inspections of equipment located in parks and facilities; assesses maintenance needs and areas for improvement and reports findings to Parks and Recreation Manager.· Inspects work in progress to ensure compliance with accepted work standards;· Performs non-routine maintenance and repairs and routine minor equipment maintenance· Assists in the preparation of the annual division budget, purchasing of maintenance supplies, and park equipment and supplies. · Receives and investigates complaints about parks and implements corrective action as appropriate;· Informs the general public of park rules and regulations;· Contacts with other agencies, departments, the public, and employees is extensive, often requiring tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality;· Ability to operate a variety of machines and equipment as needed. SUPERVISION – RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS: Supervises12 or more park maintenance workers. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: · Graduation from high school, or its equivalent, PLUS· Three years experience in construction, repair, and maintenance;· Must possess a Public Health Herb/Pesticide Sprayer License or the ability to obtain such license within six months;· Must possess a NRPA Playground Inspector Certification or obtain such certification within one year;· Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License, obtain a minimum Class B CDL within 6 months, and maintain a status of insurability. EXAMPLES OF PERFORMANCE CRITERIA AND EXPECTATIONS: · May perform call-back work during off duty hours;· Maintains up-to-date knowledge of parks and facilities management including construction, repair, and maintenance methods to enhance the facilities;· Is responsible of equipment and facilities of considerable value that requires care to prevent damage and the use of proper safety equipment following established safety procedures to prevent injury;· Assists in the setting of goals and objectives for the Parks Division; Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the non-essential functions.
