The Camp Counselor is responsible for providing a fun, safe, and engaging environment for campers. Under the guidance of the Lead Camp Counselor and Camp Director, counselors lead and participate in various activities, supervise campers, and foster positive relationships with children. This position requires a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers while helping them learn and grow through a variety of recreational, educational, and team-building experiences. Camp Counselors play a vital role in the daily operation of the camp and contribute to a positive camp culture. The hiring salary for this seasonal position begins at $15 per hour.
Position Responsibilities
Camper Engagement. Actively engage campers in a variety of activities such as sports, games, arts & crafts, and nature exploration. Foster positive relationships with campers by being a supportive and enthusiastic presence. Help campers develop teamwork skills, problem-solving abilities, and confidence.
Camper Safety. Supervise campers during daily activities, ensuring their physical and emotional safety at all times. Report any camper behavioral or medical issues to the Lead Camp Counselor promptly.
Activity Support & Instruction. Assist in the implementation of camp activities as directed ensuring they are safe, fun, and educational. Set up and clean up activities and materials as necessary. Participate in special events, field trips, and activities as scheduled by the camp.
Teamwork & Collaboration. Collaborate with fellow counselors to maintain group cohesion and ensure smooth transitions between activities. Attend and contribute to team meetings and briefings as scheduled by management. Provide feedback to the Lead Counselor on group dynamics and individual camper needs.
Communication & Reporting. Communicate regularly with the Lead Camp Counselor to report any concerns, ideas for improvement, or issues that arise during camp. Keep daily records of camper participation, incidents, or notable achievements. Assist with the completion of end-of-day camper check-in / check-out and ensure that all campers are safely accounted for.
Education and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- 16 years of age and completed at least one year of secondary education (high school).
- CPR and First Aid certification required (or the ability to obtain prior to camp start).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to work effectively in a team environment. Able to handle basic first aid situations and emergencies.
- The ability to pass a pre-employment fingerprint background investigation and drug screen.

Work Schedule
Must be available to be scheduled five days a week (Monday-Friday) during the Summer months (mid-May through mid-August).
