What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fire Chief position at City of Shelbyville, Kentucky?
The Shelbyville Fire Department is accepting applications for a full-time Fire Chief.
General Duties: This position serves under the Mayor and/or City Administrator and routinely works 8-hour days Monday through Friday. May work longer as required and may be mandated to work based on the needs of the department. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to: executing all functions of fire management including departmental administration, fire suppression and inspection, fire prevention, public relations and education, personnel, training, equipment, and facility maintenance; performing cause and origin investigations; overseeing emergency response and mutual aid resources within the jurisdiction of the city; and developing and maintaining effective working relationships with city officials, employees, and the general public.
Education and Certification Qualifications:
- A valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky
- Minimum of an associate’s degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or other closely related field from an accredited college or university. A BA or BS degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, or other closely related field from an accredited college or university are preferred but not required.
- 300-hour certification
- 120 continuous months of experience as a career shift supervisor and/or administrative chief with a career or combination fire department
- Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and Level 1 Instruction certifications established and certified by the Kentucky Fire Commission
- Certified Emergency Medical Technician Certification (EMT-B or EMT-A or P) as established and certified by the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services (KBEMS)
- OSHA 1910:120 Hazardous Materials Technician Certification or equivalent
- Certificates from the US Department of Homeland Security/FEMA that include NIMS IS-100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800
- Level II Fire Prevention Inspector certification as certified by the Kentucky Fire Marshal’s Office
Salary: $88,700 - $113,050, based on experience. An additional $4,429 annually will be paid through the Kentucky Fire Commission’s incentive program.
