Salary : $61,817.60 - $82,929.60 AnnuallyLocation : Shelton, WAJob Type : Full-timeJob Number : 2025-02Department : Public WorksOpening Date : 01 / 07 / 2025Closing Date : 2 / 28 / 2025 11 : 59 PM PacificDescription The person in this position operates light equipment and performs physical labor in completing maintenance, repair, and construction work on the Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Class 'A' Reclamation Plant, and other public works facilities. Additional responsibilities include conducting laboratory testing and analyzing test results; relating results to plant processes, reporting findings and adjusting plant processes to prevent or correct problems Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist in all aspects of maintaining and repairing public works assets and facilities.Operate light equipment and hand tools in completing public works projects.Perform chemical, bacteriological, and biological laboratory analyses that are required for the operation of both plants as specified by the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits following specific instructions; record results and report deviations from allowable standards.Recommend to the plant operator, or implement under supervision by plant technician in charge, plant process changes based on laboratory-testing results and document corrective measures taken.Operate laboratory equipment such as balance scales and electronic analyzing devices according to specific directions.Perform preventative and predictive maintenance checks and services on pump and lift station equipment and control mechanisms.Use data management programs to assist in wastewater treatment process changes, operations and reporting. With professional integrity, establish and maintain appropriate and effective communication and work relationships with the City Manager, City Council, other City departments, as well as the general public, local, state and federal agencies.The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Qualifications / Requirements To perform this job successfully, the person in this position must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : High School Diploma or GED and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's Certification Group I. Must have a minimum of t eighteen months experience in sewage treatment plant maintenance and operations or in a related field. Must be familiar with SCADA System monitoring and control.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS : Have a valid current Washington State driver's license and have the ability to follow Washington State Motor Vehicle Laws. Must hold, or be able to obtain within six months of employment, a First-Aid / CPR Card and a Flagger's Card. Possess a minimum of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's Certification Group I. Must hold, or be able to obtain within thirty months, a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's Certification Group II.OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES : Must have good communication skills; requires a calm demeanor in responding to customer questions or complaints and dealing with the general public in everyday activities.Ability to complete mathematical calculations related to laboratory procedures and wastewater treatment plant operations.Ability to use or operate current office technology including hardware, software programs, adding machine, calculator, and lab equipment. Ability to operate pick-up trucks, overhead cranes and hoists, riding mower, and other hand tools and equipment required to perform Sewer Department maintenance and repair duties. The employee must have the ability to exert or lift 50 pounds or more. Must have the ability to perform frequent strenuous physical labor, and to operate trucks and equipment in close quarters. Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close vision. Sick leave accruals for part-time employees will be pro-rated based on the number of hours in pay status.
