What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wastewater Treatment Technician I position at City of Shelton?
The person in this position operates light equipment and performs physical labor in completing maintenance, repair, and construction work on the Wastewater Treatment Plant, the Class ‘A’ Reclamation Plant, and other public works facilities. Additional responsibilities include conducting laboratory testing and analyzing test results; relating results to plant processes, reporting findings and adjusting plant processes to prevent or correct problems. Assist in all aspects of maintaining and repairing public works assets and facilities.
Operate light equipment and hand tools in completing public works projects.
Perform chemical, bacteriological, and biological laboratory analyses that are required for the operation of both plants as specified by the National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits following specific instructions; record results and report deviations from allowable standards.
Recommend to the plant operator, or implement under supervision by plant technician in charge, plant process changes based on laboratory-testing results and document corrective measures taken.
Operate laboratory equipment such as balance scales and electronic analyzing devices according to specific directions.
Perform preventative and predictive maintenance checks and services on pump and lift station equipment and control mechanisms
Use data management programs to assist in wastewater treatment process changes, operations and reporting.
With professional integrity, establish and maintain appropriate and effective communication and work relationships with the City Manager, City Council, other City departments, as well as the general public, local, state and federal agencies.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED. Must be familiar with SCADA System monitoring and control.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Have a valid current Washington State driver’s license and have the ability to follow Washington State Motor Vehicle Laws. Possess a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's Certification Group I. Must hold, or be able to obtain within six months of employment, a First Aid/CPR Card and a Flagger's Card.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Must have good communication skills; requires a calm demeanor in responding to customer questions or complaints and dealing with the general public in everyday activities.
Have a valid current Washington State driver’s license and have the ability to follow Washington State Motor Vehicle Laws. Must hold, or be able to obtain within eighteen months of employment, a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s Certification Group I. Must hold, or be able to obtain within six months of employment, a First Aid/CPR Card and a Flagger's Card.
