GENERAL SUMMARY

We are seeking up to (9) Assistant Camp Directors for our Camp Shoreline summer program who can work during all the listed program dates. Assistant Camp Director positions include:
Spartan Recreation Center Assistant Director (5-11yr olds)- 40 hrs/wk
- Spartan Recreation Center Activity Assistant Director (7-11yr olds)(up to 2 positions 20-40hrs/wk
- Meridian Park Elementary School Lil’ Playground Pals (5-6yr olds)- 40 hrs/wk
- Outdoor Camp Assistant Director (9-12yr olds)- 1 position- 20 hrs/wk
- Youth and Teen Camps (11-15yr olds) 1 position 20-40 hrs/wk. Location will vary.
These are seasonal and non-benefited positions:
Monday - Friday
8 hour or 4 hour shifts depending on the specific position (see below), between the hours of 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Paid assistant camp director training will be scheduled an average of 16 hours between April- June. In June there will also be a 6 - 8 hour onsite training and 20-40 hrs allotted for pre-camp planning.

Camp Shoreline summer program dates
- Camp Shoreline: June 23rd - August 22nd
Spring Break: April 21st -25th
- Winter Break: December 22nd - Jan. 2nd
Scope of Work:
Spartan Recreation Center- 40 hrs/wk: Provide staff/camper supervision and leadership at Camp Shoreline Summer Camp at Spartan Recreation Center for youth ages 5-11. ?Assist site director overseeing general camp operations. Provide planning and leadership support for Camp Shoreline’s Activity, Sport and Lil’ Playground Pals Camps. Plan and lead a variety of activities including but not limited to visual and performing arts, sports, creative movement, team and individual games and sports.
Activity at Spartan Recreation Center - Up to 2 positions 20-40/hrswk (possible opportunity available to work additional 20 hrs/wk as a day camp leader for a maximum total of 40hrs/wk.).Provide staff/camper supervision and leadership at Camp Shoreline’s Activity Camp at Spartan Recreation Center. These positionsare responsible for planning and implementing creative and engaging activities each day of camp for a classroom of 35 children ages 7-11. Activities include, but are not limited to, arts & crafts, nature and science exploration, cooking and performance arts.
Lil’ Playground Pals- 40 hrs/wk -This position will plan and oversee Camp Shoreline’s 5-6 year old camp program at Camp Shoreline’s offsite location at Meridian Park Elementary School. The assistant director supervises and works with day camp leaders to lead campers in a variety of age-appropriate games, sports, art projects.
Outdoor Camp- 20hrs/wk (possible opportunity available to work additional 20 hrs/wk as a day camp leader for a maximum total of 40hrs/wk.) - Provide staff/camper supervision and leadership at Camp Shoreline Outdoor Camp at Hamlin Park and Richmond Beach Saltwater Park for youth ages 9-12. Assist site director and work with one or more camp leaders to plan and lead participants in a variety of activities including but are not limited to visual and performing arts, sports, creative movement, team and individual games and sports.
Youth and Teen Camp (must be 18 )
1 position 20-40 hrs/wk. Location will vary. We have camp sitesat several locations and this position may work at different sites.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Assist site director in the coordination of camp activities and staff.
- Supervision of staff and volunteers.
- Supervision of campers.
- Assist with the daily planning, scheduling, and staffing of camp.
- Communicate with the community and participant families in a professional manner.
- Know and follow City policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Depending on the camp in which you will be supervising, your job duties may include:
- Leading activities in arts, sports and games for youth.
- Developing an all-outdoor camp curriculum.
- Overseeing, planning, and organizing age-appropriate activities for preschoolers.
- Participate and work effectively in an organization committed to advancing principles and practices of equity and anti-racism.
Interact with diverse populations of all ages in a friendly environment. - Experience supervising and scheduling staff.
- Experience in leading, in a group setting.
- Experience in school or recreation activities that include supervising or leading groups of children.
- Ability to work independently and with a group.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong interest and ability to lead activities in arts, sports and games for youth.
- Strong verbal communication skills with an enthusiastic and friendly personality.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Certificate:
Current First Aid/CPR certification is required, on-site training will be provided for those who are not currently certified.
Employment is contingent upon successfully passing State/Federal pre-employment background checks.
