What are the responsibilities and job description for the EH - Youth Outreach Leader position at City of Shoreline?
There are six (6) positions available, applicants must be at least 16 years old
and enrolled in high school level classes
Youth Outreach Leadership and Opportunities (YOLO) proposes a different approach to reach the youth in our community and connect them to services and programs - work with youth to connect with youth. This program aims to reach youth through the community connections of other youth. This will be accomplished in two ways, by providing youth employment through a program called Youth Outreach Leadership and Opportunities (YOLO), and by providing direct access to needed services based on youth input and community need. YOLO is a job-skill and leadership development program as well as a youth outreach program.
The Youth Outreach Leaders (YOLs) will provide information and support to help youth access programs and services in their community. The Youth Outreach Leaders will have the opportunity to outreach to their peers to assess the needed resources in their community and gain experience and knowledge on how to market and run youth programming. The YOL team will work closely together to design and lead events throughout the year. This position will work 8-10 hours a week and is required to attend a weekly meeting and trainings throughout the school year. This program receives funding from King County Best Starts for KidsResponsibilities:
- Recruit and bring new youth participants into programs
- Respond to the changing needs of diverse and underserved youth through outreach and by removing barriers to their engagement in the community
- Provide other youth information and access to City of Shoreline and local neighborhood programs and services that will enable them to more fully engage in community activities of their choice
- Assist direct supervisor with planning, leading, and implementing program activities, workshops and events
- Attend scheduled meetings and trainings
- Serving as a positive role model for youth
- Participate enthusiastically in all program activities and events
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Previous knowledge and experience with youth recreational programs
- Ability to participate and work effectively in an organization committed to advancing principles and practices of equity and anti-racism.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Ability to engage effectively with youth
- Ability to interact effectively with a variety of public and private agencies including, but not limited to, private businesses, community based organizations, non-profit organizations, other City, County, and State agencies
- Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural communities

Conditions Of Employment:

- This position requires completion of a criminal background check prior to the start of employment.
Community center/indoor and outdoor recreational facility environment; may travel from site to site; exposure to computer screen, noisy environments, and potential inclement weather conditions.
