NOTE: This is a Part-Time regular position of 24 hours per week.The City of Shoreline is hiring a part-time (0.6 FTE) Equity and Social Justice (ESJ) Coordinator to support the City Council Goal 4: Expand the City’s focus on equity and social justice and work to become an Anti-Racist community through building meaningful relationships with community members, groups, and organizations. The position is located in the Community Services Division, which includes Environmental Sustainability, Housing and Human Services, and Community Opportunities programs. The ESJ Coordinator primarily focuses on community-based efforts, but may also provide internal support, in order to increase community access to City resources, information, and services. The ESJ Coordinator role will support program development, creation of materials, written documents, and collaborate with residents, community groups, community-based organizations, and other public entities to coordinate community-driven events, such as educational workshops and/or celebrations.The successful candidate will be experienced navigating public institutions, advocating for individuals in accessing services, especially with diverse populations and communities most negatively impacted by systemic barriers, including limited English speakers, recent immigrant/refugees, people with disabilities, older adults, and those who are unhoused and/or low-income. In this role, they will also support Shoreline City Council’s Resolutions 401 and 467 which state the City’s values to building a welcoming and anti-racist community where everyone feels included and can thrive.DEFINITIONTo coordinate effective resident participation and communication with Shoreline's diverse communities; to support efforts to promote civic engagement, access to human services, and facilitate community collaboration and partnerships; to support internal and external efforts to provide culturally competent programs and services. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general supervision from supervisory or management staff. Exercises technical and functional supervision over support staff.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Essential Functions: Serve as a City representative to organizations and groups within the community; identify and connect with leaders and members of culturally diverse communities.Serve as staff liaison to community-based organizations and groups; provide two-way communication and resident review of issues and interests; provide technical assistance, human services resources and support to encourage healthy, vibrant, inclusive leadership structures within groups and associations.Research, write and edit informational materials to enhance two-way communications between the City and its residents; assist community groups with the development of outreach materials including newsletters, flyers, posters and electronic media.Conduct outreach and engagement to build relationships with underrepresented communities.Maintain awareness of community issues and concerns; maintain working relationships with community groups within and surrounding Shoreline.Serve as a resource to other departments in matters relating to outreach, community engagement and delivery of culturally competent and inclusive services and programs.Support internal training and education efforts for City staff on equity and inclusion.Develop, coordinate and implement public presentations and community dialogue about City government, human services, and diversity, anti-racism, inclusion and related topics.Serve as a resource for external partners about activities that will impact Shoreline residents.Provide leadership and problem-solving support to community groups; assist as needed in the organization of City departmental responses to diverse communities' issues and requests for help.Partner with external organizations to improve the City's collaboration with programs conducted by peer institutions; assist City departments to enhance public outreach efforts to broaden public participation on varied City initiatives and planning.Contract with vendor/consultants as needed.Marginal Functions: Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

This position requires completion of a criminal background check prior to start employmentThis position requires a valid state-issued driver's license with an acceptable driving record that must be provided prior to start of employment.Employees Working Remotely: The City has implemented a remote work policy that allows staff to work up to three remote days a week, however during the 6-month probationary period it is expected that all work will be performed at City Hall. The schedule for this part time position will be mutually agreed upon but will have some mandatory days each month. Full-time remote work is not an option. Once hired, employees must reside in the State of Washington. Environmental Conditions: Office environment; exposure to computer screens; extensive contact with the public. Physical Conditions: Essential and marginal functions may require sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; extensive use of computer keyboard; near visual acuity for working on the computer
