What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard position at City of Shoreview?
No previous guarding experience is needed for this position, just a love of the water. We provide all necessary training. We are currently hiring for all shifts. Year-round positions are available.
The City of Shoreview employs 45 - 75 lifeguards, depending on the season, in our beautiful indoor pool and water park. The Shoreview Waterpark features a three-story waterslide, zero depth beach, adventure walk, water play feature, boat slide, giant floatable toys, adult deck/whirlpool, and much more in a fun, tropical environment.
Uniforms (tank top, shorts and whistle) are provided. Current employees can renew their lifeguard, CPR and First Aid certifications at no charge through Shoreview classes.
Monday-Friday 5 am – 8:30 pm
Saturday 6 am – 7 pm
Sunday 6 am – 8 pm
*** Up to $20/hour for weekend shifts and special events
In addition, we have pool rentals and special events that need staffing. Staff must attend 3 hours of in-service training each month and other meetings as posted.
Note: Your training, materials and Lifeguard Certification are FREE - a $225 value!
*** Lifeguard Certification training is delivered through a combination of online and in-person training. Employees are compensated at a rate of $11 per hour for lifeguard certification training.

- Arrive on time for shift
- Recognize emergencies and respond effectively
- Enforce all facility policies, rules and regulations
- Inspect locker rooms throughout the shift for cleanliness
- Regularly participate in in-service training sessions
- Maintain timesheet with accurate number of hours worked
- Find substitute to work shift if a planned absence is necessary
- Maintain fitness level as required
- Other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Management staff
- Must be at least 15 years old
- Must be able to swim 50 yards
