Summer Discovery is Shoreview Parks and Recreation's highly popular summer child care program. The program operates Monday - Friday at the Shoreview Community Center, a high quality facility with numerous resources. Children entering grades K-6 spend a fun-filled summer participating in activities ranging from weekly field trips, swimming, crafts, science projects, active games and more.
The following positions are responsible for supporting children with physical and/or cognitive disabilities to ensure their full participation in the summer program.We are accepting applications for the following positions for the 2025 summer season.INCLUSION SPECIALIST LEAD
Monday-Friday: 40 hours/week; May-August
$20 - 22 per hour
Oversee, coach, and support Inclusion Specialist staff with campers
Adapt activities to ensure accessibility for individuals with disabilities
Document camper progress, develop strategies, and create individualized plans
Provide adaptive tools, strategies, and alternative participation options
Assist with medication management, including ensuring paperwork and action plans are completed and administering medications as needed
Implement effective behavior management techniques
Maintain open communication with families to understand and address campers’ needs
Provide one-on-one or small group support as necessary
Assist counselors in managing camper behavior and maintaining a safe environment
INCLUSION SPECIALIST
Monday-Friday: 40 hours/week; June-August
$18 - 20 per hour
- Offer 1:1 assistance to camper with disabilities or related needs
Modify activities to accommodate needs
Provide adaptive tools, strategies, and alternative participation options
Maintain regular communication with families
Document campers progress, strategies, and update behavior plans as needed
Implement behavior management techniques
Encourage peer engagement and positive social interactions among campers
Work with Summer Discovery Coordinators and Inclusion Specialist Lead to develop and implement inclusive strategies
- Strong passion for working with children, especially those with disabilities or behavioral challenges
- Ability to lift and/or move 25-50 pounds
- Must be age 16 or older (Inclusion Specialist)
- Must be age 18 or older (Inclusion Specialist LEAD)
- Experience working with children with diverse needs (e.g., physical, developmental, or emotional disabilities)
Knowledge of inclusion strategies and best practices for supporting children with disabilities
Enrollment in (or completion of) a degree or certificate program in therapeutic recreation, adaptive recreation, special education, psychology, occupational therapy, or a related field

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work is performed indoors and outdoors. Employee is frequently required to kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, lift, push, talk, hear and use repetitive motion of the hands, wrists and/or fingers. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently.
Salary : $18 - $22
