Responsible for the safety of patrons at city aquatics center, support of daily program operations, set up site and equipment, assist in scheduling and conducting activities, perform customer service, and compile simple reports. Incumbents are part-time seasonal employees.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the supervision of the Aquatics Center Manager, Aquatics Pool Supervisor and the direct supervision of the Head Lifeguard
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of other employees

- Enforce the pool rules; be familiar with, study, enforce, and use all the latest methods of safety procedures
- Public relations with the pool's participants
- Communicate problems and concerns with the Head Lifeguard
- To keep physically fit and mentally alert and prepared to meet an emergency
- Stationed in a position where able to view the maximum activities as assigned
- Maintain proper guarding techniques to ensure safety of self and users
- Security of facility
- Cleaning of facility and pool area
- Give guidance and assistance to other Lifeguards
- To participate in all in-service training programs
- Determine/provide necessary Basic Lifesaving Support in an emergency
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
Performs all duties in strict compliance with appropriate safety and security standards. Ensures all applicable safety and health rules and regulations are followed. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times and streamline work processes
Participates in the accomplishment of organizational, departmental and workgroup goals and objectives. Exhibits a high-level service orientation toward customers and maintains productive working relationships
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned, including that of a recreation assistant
PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
Serves on various employee or other committees as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be having a Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate.
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic knowledge of operation of a pool, record keeping methods and procedures, safety concerns associated with the care of participants
- Skill in customer service, water rescue and first aid
- Ability to work safely, maintain a safe environment, communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate
- Current Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificate
- Ability to obtain oxygen certification within 30 days of employment
