Duties
1. Construction Traffic Controller II work activities are divided into two (2) classes.
2. Construction Traffic Controller II is the second and highest or senior level class, to which Construction Traffic Controlman positions are allocated in the Classified Service.
3. Construction Traffic Controller II work activities involve the following tasks: Serves as senior member of the crew that rides in and works from a truck equipped with barricades, flashing lights, cones. and signs and other traffic control devices. Determines proper traffic control and sets up, places, installs and retrieves barricades, cones flashing lights and signs in construction zones. Works with private contractors and utility companies to insure they maintain clean, clear, proper barricading of construction areas on city right-of-way. Maintains records of all current barricaded zones in the city . Trains new personnel in proper procedures and helps teach training sessions in proper traffic control in construction zones. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Demonstrated leadership qualities and ability to perform assigned tasks.
2. Two (2) years training experience as Erector Traffic Sign I.
3. Physical stamina; manual dexterity; eye-hand-foot coordination; and spatial and form perception.
4. Thorough knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration and City of Shreveport Barricade Ordinance.
Physical Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to exert moderate physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Some tasks require the ability to operate motor vehicle, manhole puller, tape measure, sampling equipment, common hand tools, outboard motor boat, computer terminal, transit and hand maul. Some tasks require the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of odors, colors, shapes and sounds associated with job-related objects, materials and tasks. Job must be performed with or without accommodations.
Work Environmental: Some tasks may risk exposure to toxic substances, temperature extremes, odors, wetness, animals, disease pathogens, electrical currents, explosives and traffic hazards
